Old Town: is the oldest quarter of Prague, which gained the privileges of a town in the 13th century. The most known and historical parts of the city are the Old Town Square and Josefov (Jewish Quarter). Around this area you will find many lovely streets and buildings. Should you be coming during the Christmas time there are wonderful Christmas markets going on and a huge Christmas tree with a Christmas crib. Famous is the gothic Tyn Church and Astronomical Clock.
Josefov (Jewish Quarter): used to be a Jewish ghetto and is named after the emperor Josef II. In this part you will find the most expensive street Pariska, many famous Synagogues and the Jewish Cemetery.
Lesser Town: is known for its small various historical houses covered with picturesque red rooftops. The important buildings include the St Nicholas Church, the Town Hall, the Sternberg Palace, the Smiřický Palace. To relax you can enjoy the Waldstejn gardens, which are considered to be among the nicest in the city.
Prague Castle Area: consists of the Prague castle, which is the largest ancient castle in the world. Each ruler made his own additions so there is a mixture of styles. It is the seat of the Czech president and serves for representation. This whole area is protected by UNESCO World Heritage and is one of the most visited quarters in Prague.
New Town it is not as new as it may sound. It was founded by the King Charles IV., one of the most important Czech rulers, in the 14th century. One of the parts of the New Town is the Wenceslas Square, where people meet when something important happens. The other places are the Faust House, Charles Square, the very important National Theatre, State Opera and National Museum.
Vinohrady: this area used to be called “Kralovske Vinohrady” meaning Kings vineyards refering to the importance of Charles IV. in founding the local vineyards. Public transportation

Prague’s excellent integrated public-transport system combines metro, tram and bus. It’s operated by www.dpp.cz, with information desks at Ruzyně airport (open 7am to 10pm) where you can get tickets, directions, a multilingual transport-system map, a map of night services (noční provoz) and a detailed English-language guide to the whole system.
The metro operates from 5am to midnight daily. There are three lines, known as A, B and C; or more commonly, red, yellow and green. Validate your ticket, available from vending machines at the stations’ vestibules, at the ticket barriers. These passes are valid for all Prague public transport.
